Rui Rodrigues 400x400.jpg

Rui is a neurobiologist (MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Universidade de Coimbra) with a genuine passion for neuroscience and science communication. His research focuses on the links between adult hippocampal neurogenesis and psychiatric disorders. For his PhD Rui studied the mechanisms underlying the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids and physical exercise in stress-related conditions, particularly depression. He used behavioral and molecular approaches, complemented with in vitro techniques, to investigate the functional role of neurogenic modulators in adult hippocampal neurogenesis as potential antidepressant targets. When out of work: passionate for music, cooking, sports and exploring new places.

Isa is a biochemist (BSc in Biochemistry, Universidade de Coimbra) currently enrolled in the Biomedical Research Master program, at Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM). She works on the role of bioenergetics on neural stem cells differentiation. She uses many techniques, such as neurosphere cultures, respiratory assays, magnetic-activated cell sorting, and immunocytochemistry. Besides science, Isa enjoys food, traveling, and puzzles.

Diogo Lourenco - Cópia.jpg

Diogo is a Biologist (BSc in Developmental and Evolutionary Biology, Universidade de Lisboa) and a Neurobiologist (MSc in Neuroscience, King’s College London). He is currently working on understanding how a non-psychotomimetic cannabinoid can modulate postnatal neurogenesis and be used as a potential new therapy to treat Rett Syndrome. For that he uses both in vivo (animal behavior and drug administration) and in vitro techniques (namely the neurosphere assay), complemented by microscopy and molecular analysis. On the personal side, he is truly passionate about the mysteries of the brain, traveling, cooking  and all things science fiction, because science fiction may one day be real science!
